Criminal
Records Bureau Checks
Our
Service
S2S chose to stop offering a CRB Umbrella Service in August 2011 and now uses CAPITA to undertake all our CRB checks. This is an efficient online service which meets the needs of our applicants and still enables S2S to track the progress on line. It also provides our applicants with an easy and effective application process which reduces errors and is resulting in much faster CRB disclosure returns.

Types
of Criminal Record Bureau checks
Standard
Standard
CRB checks are for people entering certain professions, such
as members of the legal and accountancy professions. Standard
checks contain the following:
Convictions,
Cautions, reprimands and warnings held in England and Wales
on the Police National Computer, the most relevant convictions
in Scotland and Northern Ireland may also be included;
Standard
checks no longer include a check of the old or new barred
lists from 12 October 2009, therefore if you are working or
volunteering with children or vulnerable adults, you may now
be obliged to undertake an Enhanced CRB check
Enhanced
Disclosure
Enhanced
checks are for posts involving work in a regulated activity
for a regulated activity provider with children or vulnerable
adults. In general, the type of work will involve regularly
caring for, supervising, training or being in sole charge
of such people. Examples include; Teacher, Scout or Guide
leaders. Enhanced checks are also issued in certain statutory
purposes such as gaming and lottery licences.
Enhanced
checks contain the same information as Standard checks but
with the addition of a check of the new barred lists if requested
and any locally held police information considered relevant
to the job role, by the Chief Police Officer
The CRB
recognises that the Standard and Enhanced Disclosure information
can be extremely sensitive and personal; therefore it has
published a Code of Practice and employers’ guidance
for recipients of Disclosures to ensure they are handled fairly
and used properly Please visit www.crb.homeoffice.gov.uk for
more information.
A copy of the Standard or Enhanced Disclosure will be sent
out to the applicant as well as the Registered Body.

ISA Checks
Introduced
in October 2009, the ISA is a Non-Departmental Public Body
set up by the Home Office to provide a new vetting and barring
service for those working with children and vulnerable adults. The ISA checks replaces List 99 and the ISA Barred list is now checked when an enhanced CRB application is submitted.
Who can
apply for a CRB check?
If you
are going to work as a paid employee or as a volunteer and
your work will bring you into contact with children or vulnerable
adults, you may be asked to apply for a CRB check. This check
cannot be obtained by members of the public directly but are
only available to organisations and only for those professions,
offices, employment, work and occupations listed in the Exceptions
Order to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974.
For this
reason your application will be processed either by your employer,
if it is registered with the CRB, or a third party organisation,
called an Umbrella Body, which is registered with the CRB
